Jacob Fischer, a talented guitarist, teams up with organ virtuoso Martin Schack and the swinging drummer Tom Jensen to deliver a live recording of organ jazz in the best Jimmy Smith style. Their CD, aptly titled Blues, was recorded at La Fontaine in 2010. The album offers a wide array of blues tracks, from a biting, distorted slide blues to a light, pale-blue jazz waltz, a lazy summer-blue bossa nova blues, and a fierce, virtuosic bebop blues.
These three accomplished jazz musicians make no secret of their love for the music. They have also now taken on Big Band classics from legends like Count Basie, Thad Jones, Woody Herman, and Glenn Miller, all arranged for organ trio.
Martin Schack is establishing himself as one of the most prominent organ players on the jazz scene. He leads his own orchestra, Schackmates, and has accompanied notable musicians like James Brown’s former saxophonist, Pee Wee Ellis. In 2022, he undertook a long tour with Niels Hausgård. Drummer Tom Jensen may be known to many, even if they don’t realize it. He has played in various popular contexts, including the Cirkusrevyen (Circus Revue) and with Stig Rossen.
This concert, however, gives the audience an opportunity to experience his talent as a jazz drummer.

Martin Schack is a versatile and acclaimed Danish pianist and organist, moving fluently between neo-bop, mainstream jazz, and re-interpretations of the Danish songbook. He has an extensive international career, releasing albums on Storyville Records, notably featuring Tom Harrell. Schack is also a prominent cultural figure, serving as a lecturer at the Conservatory of Music, as the owner of the venue Termansens, and as the founder of the Ribe Jazz Festival.
