Line-up
Drums
Daniel Sommer is an acclaimed Danish drummer and composer who has established himself on the Nordic jazz scene. He is known for his lyrical and detailed approach to the drums, often focusing on subtle improvisation and textures rather than raw power. As the leader of his own ensembles, such as the Daniel Sommer Trio, and a sought-after collaborator, he contributes to modern jazz with an intelligent and atmospheric expression, cementing his place as a central figure in contemporary Danish music.
Vocal
Kira Martini is a Danish-Swedish jazz vocalist and songwriter known for her warm and personal vocals, which explore the intersection of jazz, folk, soul, and Brazilian rhythms. Her music and lyrics revolve around themes of transformation, relationships, and inner landscapes, establishing her as one of the most prominent voices on the Scandinavian jazz scene. Her latest release is the album Open Wide on Storyville Records—a genre-defying and lyrical work inspired by artists such as Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake. As a live performer, Martini is renowned for her presence and powerful synergy with Denmark’s leading jazz musicians, ranging from intimate concerts to dynamic ensemble experiences. In 2023, she received the Palæ Bar Jazz Award for her artistic contribution to Danish jazz.
Organ
Simon Gorm Eskildsen is a versatile and charismatic pianist who has emerged as one of the most exciting figures on the vibrant jazz scene in Aarhus. With roots firmly planted in both modern jazz and groovy soul-jazz, he moves effortlessly between complex improvisations and infectious melodies. He is particularly well-known for his work with the Simon Gorm Eskildsen Trio and the acclaimed AddisAbabaBand, where he blends lyrical piano playing with explosive African rhythms. Simon’s playing is characterized by an infectious playfulness and technical precision that consistently creates a deep connection with both his fellow musicians and the audience.
