Over the past 50 years, La Fontaine has hosted numerous jazz musicians. Every Sunday, Copenhagen’s top musicians gather at La Fontaine for a jam session. And maybe some of the big-stage stars will show up and join in. Many jazz legends have played on La Fontaine’s small ‘after-hours’ stage, including Ben Webster, Wynton Marsalis, and Lady Gaga.

Ida Hvid is one of Denmark’s most respected double bassists and a central figure in the country’s traditional jazz and mainstream environment. She is known for her deep roots in jazz history, her unwavering, swinging drive, and her beautiful tone. With an active career as both a bandleader and a sought-after collaborator (including Christina von Bülow and Alex Riel), Hvid cements her position as one of the most important rhythmic forces in modern Danish jazz.
Saxophone
Jan Harbeck is one of Denmark’s most acclaimed tenor saxophonists and an inescapable figure on the Danish jazz scene. Harbeck is known for his deep, warm tone and an intensely lyrical expression that bridges the golden era of swing with the contemporary sound. With his award-winning Jan Harbeck Quartet—honored with a Danish Music Award for Jazz Release of the Year—he delivers genuine, melodic, and deeply swinging jazz that appeals to both new listeners and traditional purists. Snorre Kirk is an award-winning Danish-Norwegian drummer, composer, and arranger, recognized for his deep grounding in the jazz tradition. Kirk has won multiple Danish Music Awards for his own releases, which often draw inspiration from classic film noir and New Orleans. He is known for his elegant, swinging style and as an excellent bandleader who crafts musical narratives. Snorre Kirk is a central figure in Scandinavian mainstream jazz.
