Pianist Rasmus Sørensen returns to La Fontaine this evening with a very special trio. He is joined by Icelandic trumpeter Ari Bragi Kárason—known for his solo projects as well as his work with Mezzoforte and the DR Big Band—and New York-based bassist Ben Tiberio, who has performed with a multitude of jazz’s biggest names and toured with the Ari Hoenig Trio, Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, Joel Ross, and others. They will perform Rasmus’ original compositions alongside a few select jazz standards.

    Ari Bragi Kárason is a true virtuoso whose technical mastery and warm, lyrical tone have established him as one of Iceland’s most prominent jazz musicians. He is renowned for his immense versatility, enabling him to master everything from classic bebop to modern, atmospheric soundscapes. Ari has performed with major international stars and is a core member of the acclaimed band Mezzoforte, while also releasing critically acclaimed albums under his own name.     Ben Tiberio is one of the most sought-after bassists of his generation, rapidly establishing himself as a vital voice in the upper echelons of the New York jazz scene. He is renowned for his incredible technical precision, deep, authoritative tone, and musical maturity, which have seen him tour the world with icons such as Joel Ross, Ari Hoenig, and Veronica Swift. With his critically acclaimed debut album Rare Peace, he has also cemented his status as an innovative composer and multi-instrumentalist, mastering both intimate lyrical expression and complex, modern grooves. Ben Tiberio brings a fresh, international energy and an uncompromising focus on collective interplay to every stage he performs on.

    Rasmus Sørensen, named Danish Jazz Musician of the Year 2024, moved to New York in 2018 as the first Dane ever to receive a full scholarship to the Manhattan School of Music. He quickly established himself there as one of the city’s most sought-after pianists. Today, Rasmus tours extensively across Europe with his trio and has established himself as an internationally recognized pianist and composer.
