Michael Blicher, Martin Schack, Niclas Knudsen, and Emil de Waal are the names behind Big Fun! We are talking about four internationally acclaimed Danish musicians who, in Big Fun!, blend genres to deliver a generous helping of good vibes and world-class music, unfolding their unique mix of African rhythms, funky grooves, jazz, and afrobeat.

Drums
Emil de Waal is one of Denmark’s most versatile and innovative drummers. He is renowned for his ability to move effortlessly between jazz, rock, electronic music, and world music—always with a curious and uncompromising approach to sound. Throughout his extensive career, he has performed with everything from major Danish pop stars to international jazz icons. However, it is especially in his own projects, such as Emil de Waal + Spektakel, that his unique talent for blending diverse genres shines through. Emil is a true musical entrepreneur whose playing is consistently characterized by immense creativity, an infectious joy of performing, and a constant desire to explore new sonic landscapes.
Hammond organ, Piano
Martin Schack is a versatile and acclaimed Danish pianist and organist, moving fluently between neo-bop, mainstream jazz, and re-interpretations of the Danish songbook. He has an extensive international career, releasing albums on Storyville Records, notably featuring Tom Harrell. Schack is also a prominent cultural figure, serving as a lecturer at the Conservatory of Music, as the owner of the venue Termansens, and as the founder of the Ribe Jazz Festival.
Flute, Saxophone
Michael Blicher is one of the most prominent and versatile saxophonists on the European scene. He is best known as a founding member of the award-winning trio Blicher Hemmer Gadd, performing alongside drum legend Steve Gadd. Blicher possesses a unique ability to combine the raw energy of soul and blues with the finesse of jazz, creating a sound that is both earthy and musically sophisticated. With four Danish Music Awards to his name and an extensive international career, he has proven himself a master of creating music that speaks directly to both the heart and the soul, consistently delivering an infectious rhythmic presence.
Guitar
Niclas Knudsen is one of the most versatile and creative guitarists in Danish jazz. He is renowned for his ability to move effortlessly between jazz, blues, and world music, which has made him a central figure in the highly successful trio Ibrahim Electric. With a sound ranging from raw, rock-infused energy to lyrical and intimate textures, he is a true master of improvisation. Knudsen always brings a playful energy and an unpredictable edge to the stage, turning every performance into a captivating musical journey.
