Jamsession – Martin Schack, Matthias Petri & Nikolaj Bangsgaard

Sunday den 16. August kl. 9:00 pm - 1:00 am

Over the past 50 years, La Fontaine has hosted numerous jazz musicians. Every Sunday, Copenhagen’s top musicians gather at La Fontaine for a jam session. And maybe some of the big-stage stars will show up and join in. Many jazz legends have played on La Fontaine’s small ‘after-hours’ stage, including Ben Webster, Wynton Marsalis, and Lady Gaga.

This Sunday, pianist Martin Schack will be guiding the music throughout the evening.

Anything can happen during a jazz performance, and La Fontaine is the perfect place to experience it.

Martin Schack is a versatile and acclaimed Danish pianist and organist, moving fluently between neo-bop, mainstream jazz, and re-interpretations of the Danish songbook. He has an extensive international career, releasing albums on Storyville Records, notably featuring Tom Harrell. Schack is also a prominent cultural figure, serving as a lecturer at the Conservatory of Music, as the owner of the venue Termansens, and as the founder of the Ribe Jazz Festival.

Matthias Petri is a talented Danish jazz pianist and composer who has made a mark on the Nordic jazz scene with his lyrical depth and technical precision. His music is often rooted in the Scandinavian piano tradition, but he adds a modern, improvisational twist. As a sought-after musician, he has worked in various constellations. Petri creates an atmospheric, melancholic, and intense soundscape, demonstrating a pianist with a rare sensitive touch and a clear artistic vision.

  • Drums

Nikolaj Bangsgaard has, in recent years, established himself as a highly compelling, responsive, and nuanced drummer on the contemporary jazz scene. Possessing a deep instinct for collective interplay, he beautifully balances the role of a solid, driving engine with a rare sensitivity for subtle, sonic textures. Leading his own ensembles—most notably his critically acclaimed quartet—he presents original compositions in which strong melodic lines meet a dynamic, open rhythmic landscape. Nikolaj is renowned for his incredibly attentive and supportive playing. Whether propelling an intense post-bop quartet or colorfully shading more intimate Nordic soundscapes, he brings a mature authority and an infectious energy to the stage.
