    Expect a heavy dose of organ jazz as Jacob Fischer teams up with organ virtuoso Mads Søndergaard on the Hammond in true Jimmy Smith style, featuring Jappe Zacho on sax and Tom Jensen’s rock-solid swinging drums

    Jacob Fischer will be a familiar face to many, notably from his years playing with Svend Asmussen (who famously performed with Django Reinhardt) and from the thousands of concerts he played alongside Finn Ziegler and Hugo Rasmussen.

    Mads Søndergaard on organ and Jeppe Zacho on sax bring the perfect blend of blues and bebop to the quartet. With years of experience on the stage, these guys truly know their jazz!

    Most people have likely heard drummer Tom Jensen without even realizing it—whether in the Cirkusrevyen, performing with Stig Rossen, or in various other contexts. He is also a superb jazz drummer, a fact you’ll have the chance to experience firsthand at this concert.

    Jacob Fischer and accordion virtuoso Francesco Calí, from Catania, Sicily, share an extraordinary musical bond developed over more than 15 years of close collaboration. The accordion and guitar make for an exceptionally melodic and charming combination that seems to strike a chord directly with the audience—”Jazz with a Mediterranean vibe,” as heard on their critically acclaimed 2011 album, Django.

    To celebrate Valentine’s Day, they are joined on this occasion by the wonderful young double bassist and singer Rosa Salamon, who recently returned to Denmark after several years abroad. Pelle von Bülow is one of the most in-demand jazz guitarists on the Copenhagen scene.     Schack/Søndergård Soulmates unites four of the country’s most prominent musicians in an explosive, groove-heavy Hammond quartet. Alto saxophonist Jens Søndergaard—an institution in Danish jazz—plays with a power, warmth, and authority that only grows stronger with the years. His tone brings to mind Cannonball Adderley and 60s soul jazz, yet carries his own distinct personal touch.

    Guitarist Jacob Fischer is joined this time by a superb, hard-swinging quartet of rising stars currently making waves on the jazz scene. Together, they will perform a mix of carefully selected jazz classics in fresh arrangements and original compositions.

    Most will recognize Jacob Fischer from his long tenure with Svend Asmussen or his thousands of performances alongside Finn Ziegler and Hugo Rasmussen. Beyond his work as a sideman, he is a prolific bandleader in his own right, frequently mentoring and performing with the brightest young talents on the scene.

    Pianist Zier Romme Larsen delivers a truly extraordinary performance, blending energetic drive with a sensitive touch that clearly draws inspiration from Oscar Peterson. Zier was awarded the Ben Webster Prize in 2023, following in the footsteps of Fischer, who received the same honor in 1996.

    Bassist Matthias Petri, known for his virtuoso technique and rock-solid melodicism, stands as one of the most prominent young bassists on the scene today. Rounding out the quartet is Jacob Lindberg, a young drummer possessing a fantastic sense of swing and drive—the latest standout addition to Danish jazz arriving from Sweden.

    Singer and saxophonist Mads Mathias is Denmark’s leading male jazz vocalist, offering a personal and fresh take on the modern jazz crooner in the tradition of Sinatra, Nat ‘King’ Cole, and Tony Bennett—in addition to being an outstanding scat singer. His charismatic stage presence has made him a highly sought-after soloist, and he is steadily building a reputation abroad, particularly in the UK.

    Guitarist Jacob Fischer is another artist who, for many years, has performed more frequently abroad than at home, though many here will know him from his long tenure with Svend Asmussen or his thousands of concerts with Finn Ziegler and Hugo Rasmussen.
